Kids in Everett can learn about bug-eating plants and take one home at a free program at the Main Library on Thursday, July 9.

"The Secret Lives of Sundews," running from 6 to 7 p.m. at 2702 Hoyt Ave., will teach children ages 6 to 17 how carnivorous sundew plants trap prey and why they do it. Each child will plant a sundew to bring home.

The presenter is Stephanie Meyer of Predatory Perennials, a local carnivorous plant nursery, according to a 2022 Live in Everett profile of the business.

The library's event listing identifies the presenter as "Steph from Predatory Perennials." Meyer, an Everett resident, launched the nursery in 2018 and cultivates thousands of plants on a one-third-acre property, including American Pitcher Plants, Venus Flytraps, and the Drosera sundews kids will pot at the library.

Predatory Perennials has been a vendor at the Everett Farmers Market and appeared at the Edmonds Arts Festival earlier in June 2026.

Supplies are limited. Registration is required at epls.org/SignMeUp, according to the library's event calendar.
