Hockey is back in Everett. The reigning WHL champion Silvertips opened their 2026-27 training camp schedule Aug. 24, at Angel of the Winds Arena, marking the first on-ice action since the club hoisted the Ed Chynoweth Cup last spring.

The team announced the camp schedule on X, with Craven Farm as the presenting sponsor.

The defending champs posted a historic 57-8-3 regular-season record in 2025-26, earning head coach Steve Hamilton the Dunc McCallum Memorial Trophy as WHL Coach of the Year. But the roster heading into camp looks dramatically different from the one that set franchise records.

New faces, new leaders

All four letter-wearers from the championship season are gone. Captain Tarin Smith and alternate captains Carter Bear, Landon DuPont and Jesse Heslop have all moved on. That leaves forward Jaxsin Vaughan, 20, as the only returning alternate captain and the lone player who wore a letter last season.

Vaughan scored 21 goals and 38 points in 68 games in 2025-26. He earned a Boston Bruins Development Camp invitation in July after a viral fight during the Memorial Cup and will suit up for Boston's Prospect Challenge roster in September. Still, he chose to come back to Everett.

"There's some stuff, schools and stuff, but I don't think I could leave here early … It's paradise here for me," Vaughan said at his June 2 exit meeting, as he told the Everett Herald in a July story about his Bruins camp invitation.

Retooled roster

General manager Mike Fraser spent the summer reshaping the group. The Silvertips acquired goaltender Jayden Kraus from the Brandon Wheat Kings after both championship-season netminders departed for college hockey: Anders Miller to Lake Superior State and Raiden LeGall to Minnesota State Mankato. Kraus, who attended Colorado Avalanche camp before the 2025-26 season, fills a third overager spot alongside Vaughan and defenseman Mattias Uyeda.

Fraser also signed a wave of newcomers expected at camp: first-round pick Wyatt Bitz (13th overall), USHL all-star defenseman Bode Laylin, BCHL veteran Adam Boatter, sixth-overall import pick Dario Blengino and MJHL All-Rookie forward Crosby Harrison, among others.

What's ahead

The next fan-facing date is a non-ticketed Rookie Game on Sunday, Aug. 30, against Seattle at Angel of the Winds Arena at 1 p.m. The Everett Preseason Classic runs Sept. 4-6, and the regular-season home opener is Saturday, Sept. 19, at 6 p.m. against Portland, when the club will raise its championship banner.
