Amazon has leased a roughly 91,000-square-foot warehouse at 6611 Associated Blvd. in Everett.

The lease is for Amazon Leo, the company's satellite internet division formerly known as Project Kuiper, 425Business.com reported, citing commercial real estate outlet ConnectCRE.

The move marks Amazon's return to Everett. The company occupied an Everett warehouse from at least 2018 through 2024 before leaving, according to the report.

Amazon Leo was established in 2019 to deploy a constellation of satellites providing low-latency broadband internet.

Not all outlets describe the intended use the same way. The Puget Sound Business Journal reported Oct. 15 that Amazon signed a lease to fill a vacant warehouse it would "likely put to a new use," without directly confirming the satellite-division link. Hoodline reported that permit filings, per CoStar News, point to possible use by Amazon's Leo program.

The Everett lease comes as Amazon Leo ramps up satellite production at its 172,000-square-foot factory in Kirkland. That facility can build up to five satellites per day at peak capacity, according to Amazon.

More than 2,000 Amazon employees in the Puget Sound region work on the Leo program, the company said.

Steve Metayer, Amazon Leo's vice president of production operations, said in a company release that the Kirkland facility allows the team to "ramp satellite production ahead of our first launch and move faster in our mission to connect the world."

Amazon recently manufactured its 1,000th satellite at the Kirkland factory, Hoodline reported, citing Ars Technica.

An Amazon executive told Ars Technica the pace has accelerated sharply: "It took us six months to make our first 27 satellites. Now we can easily make 27 a week," according to Hoodline's account.

Amazon says it has secured more than 80 launches to deploy its initial constellation, which will eventually total 3,232 satellites, Hoodline reported.

About 400 are in orbit, according to Hoodline's account of Ars Technica's reporting.

Amazon Leo also partnered with Lake Washington Institute of Technology to create the school's first satellite technician certificate program.

Amazon donated 150 tools for classroom and lab use and will provide guest lecturers, the company said.

The exact operations planned for 6611 Associated Blvd. have not been publicly confirmed beyond the commercial real estate and permit reports. Amazon says it plans to begin commercial satellite internet service by the end of the year.
