The Everett AquaSox and Bloodworks Northwest are teaming up for a community blood drive Aug. 3, at the team's front office on Broadway, with the region's blood supply at what Bloodworks calls emergency levels.

Donors can sign up at donate.bloodworksnw.org/donor/schedules/sponsor_code using Sponsor Code 132D. The drive takes place at the AquaSox front office at 3802 Broadway, near Funko Field. Multiple time slots are available, and each donation takes about an hour.

The timing matters. Bloodworks Northwest, the primary blood supplier for Seattle-area trauma centers, declared a "Code Red" in July, warning that the region urgently needs healthy donors, especially Type O blood and platelet donors.

The American Red Cross issued its own national emergency the same month. According to KING 5, blood distributions to hospitals were running nearly 3,500 units per week above expected levels.

The Red Cross attributed the summer shortage to busy schedules, illness, and the loss of school-based blood drives.

"Without blood available, emergency rooms and maternity wards are paralyzed and patients with life-threatening conditions or injuries may not get the treatments they need," Dr. Courtney Lawrence, division chief medical officer for the American Red Cross, told KING 5 on July 14 when the organization declared its emergency.

The AquaSox, the Seattle Mariners' High-A affiliate, announced the drive on X on Saturday, Aug. 1, calling it a chance for fans and neighbors to help save lives. The team first posted about the event Wednesday, July 29, noting that donating "helps save countless lives."

No specific start or end times for Monday's drive have been announced. Registration is required through the Bloodworks Northwest website. The front office is at 3802 Broadway, Everett.
