Obsidian Beer Hall has shut its doors at 1420 Hewitt Ave. in downtown Everett after about two and a half years in business.

Owner Craig Chambers announced the closure in a Sept. 7 Instagram Reel, telling patrons the bar's run at the Hewitt Avenue address was over but that he plans to reopen elsewhere. The post drew 375 likes and 70 comments.

The taphouse served its last pints on Sunday, Sept. 13.

Chambers said the building at 1420 Hewitt Ave. is up for sale, which made expanding the business at that site impossible.

His goal is to find a new location that can support a kitchen and food service, the Everett Post reported.

Without food revenue, the bar relied solely on beer sales. That model carries thin profit margins, making long-term viability difficult, according to the Everett Post.

Chambers wrote in his Reel that the bar is searching for a spot that can offer food alongside drinks, and thanked patrons for their support over the past two years.

He opened Obsidian Beer Hall in 2024, taking over the former Toggle's Taphouse space on Hewitt Avenue. The Daily Herald reported at the time that the taphouse featured plush sofas, art on the walls and hip-hop on the speakers. The bar showcased rotating brews from across the Pacific Northwest as well as non-beer options, according to the business directory Intentionalist.

Obsidian billed itself as a "21+ Beer Hall" with "Hip-Hops and R&Beer" and became a regular participant in the Everett Art Walk.

The Hewitt Avenue address has seen repeated tenant turnover. Toggle's Taphouse closed at the same location in October 2022, with a co-owner citing a landlord dispute, the Herald reported at the time.

Chambers has not announced a timeline or specific site for reopening. He called the closure "not goodbye, just see you later."
