A 21-year-old driver was arrested on suspicion of felony eluding after leading Snohomish County Sheriff's deputies on a high-speed chase through South Everett in a blue Porsche on Oct. 18.

Body-camera footage released by the Snohomish County Sheriff's Office shows the handcuffed driver asking the arresting deputy if there was anything he could do to get his sports car back.

The deputy's answer: "Don't run from police."

The chase began around 6:21 p.m. on northbound I-5 just south of SR 526, according to the Everett Post. Sgt. Wallin initiated the pursuit of the Porsche after observing it being driven recklessly, My Everett News reported.

Wallin terminated the pursuit when the driver exited onto Broadway Avenue and kept fleeing at excessive speeds through downtown Everett.

Over the next several minutes, deputies and drone operators continued tracking the vehicle. The Sheriff's Office said its SKY drone operators observed the Porsche driving recklessly in the areas of I-5 and Everett Mall Way. The agency's "drone as first responder" program began in September, according to the Sheriff's Office.

K9 Deputy Byrd and Deputy Duran located the car near Everett Mall Way and 7th Avenue SE. That triggered a second brief pursuit.

Deputies deployed spike strips near 7th Avenue SE and 112th Street SE to end the chase. The driver stopped and surrendered. No injuries or vehicle damage were reported.

In the body-cam footage, the driver claimed he was "just trying to get home."

The deputy told him he had been attempting to escape and warned that the Porsche could be seized by Snohomish County if a court determined it was used in commission of a felony.

Deputies are now pursuing seizure of the vehicle, according to My Everett News.

A Sheriff's Office spokesman said the arrest resulted in felony attempting-to-elude, reckless driving and reckless endangerment entries. The Snohomish County Prosecuting Attorney's Office will decide which charges are formally filed. Attempting to elude a pursuing police vehicle while driving recklessly is a Class C felony under Washington law.

The Sheriff's Office released the footage Oct. 23 as a general warning about reckless driving.
