Families heading back to school can pick up a free backpack stuffed with supplies Saturday, Aug. 15, at the Everett Boys & Girls Club, 2316 12th St., from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Give Back Snohomish, a nonprofit led by Bill and Erin Webster that gained its tax-exempt status earlier this year, has purchased more than 5,000 items including crayons, colored pencils, glue and spiral notebooks to contribute to the club's annual School Supply Drive. The broader drive aims to fill more than 1,000 backpacks for young people served by the Boys & Girls Clubs of Snohomish County.

Give Back Snohomish launched a Givebutter fundraising campaign on July 30 with a goal of filling 100 backpacks, hoping to reach 200. As of Wednesday, Aug. 12, the campaign had raised $3,080 of its $5,000 goal. The group described the effort as a repeat partnership with the Boys & Girls Clubs of Snohomish County, noting it got a later-than-usual start this year.

The Everett club, founded in 1946, is the oldest in the county system. It serves nearly 1,000 members ages 5–18 annually, according to the Boys & Girls Clubs of Snohomish County.

Saturday's distribution is separate from the Everett Public Schools Foundation's Stuff the Bus campaign, which we reported Aug. 11 is collecting supplies at QFC on Evergreen Way and Fred Meyer in Mill Creek from Aug. 14–16 to fill 3,600 backpacks for Title I students. Six Everett elementary schools operate schoolwide Title I programs, according to the district's website.
