More than 100 Pacific Northwest artists will set up along Hoyt Avenue in downtown Everett on Saturday, Aug. 15, and Sunday, Aug. 16, for the Schack Art Center's annual Fresh Paint Festival.

The free street festival runs from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday between Pacific Avenue and Hewitt Avenue. Hoyt Avenue will be closed to traffic for the event.

The festival is one of Snohomish County's largest celebrations of the visual arts, according to organizers. This year's lineup includes original artwork for sale, live demonstrations, food vendors, free art-making projects for all ages, live glassblowing in Schack's Hot Shop, face painting, balloon art and live entertainment from The Dance School and Santana Charro Bros.

"Fresh Paint offers something you can't experience at every festival," Schack Art Center Executive Director Raedle Alburn said in a press release reported by the Everett Herald. "Visitors have the opportunity to meet artists, watch them demonstrate their craft, ask questions, and gain a deeper understanding of the time, skill, and creativity behind every piece of art."

Among the artists: Kimberly Chan, a Bellevue-based Chinese American artist participating in Fresh Paint for the first time. Chan is known for vibrant floral work inspired by everyday moments in nature. She plans to demonstrate live hand embellishment and walk visitors through the evolution of her newest piece, "Camellia Wonderland," from early concept to finished work.

Kids get their own zone. Activities include a chalk area, magic ink stations, artist demonstrations and glassblowing viewings, according to Seattle's Child.

The Schack Art Center's galleries at 2921 Hoyt Ave. will be open admission-free both days. Inside, visitors can catch "Present Tense," the center's 24th Juried Invitational showcasing work by more than 70 Northwest artists. That exhibition runs through Aug. 22, according to Cascade PBS.

Festival-goers can also hunt for blown-glass balls hidden around Waterfront Place as part of the popular Float Find Bingo game, with a chance to win a Schack glass float.

Parking at the Everpark Garage is $1 per hour. Free street parking is also available throughout the weekend.
