About 285 vehicles are expected to line Box Car Park alongside the Everett Marina on Aug. 22, when Wheels on the Waterfront holds its 14th annual charity car show benefiting cancer patients at Providence Regional Medical Center Everett, according to 425 Magazine.

The all-volunteer event has raised more than $150,000 over its history for the Providence General Foundation Cancer Patient Assistance Fund, which supports cancer patients at the hospital. Attendance is free.

Team leader Mike Beardsley, who lost his mother to lung cancer and has personally battled skin cancer owns a 1956 Chevy Nomad, a 1931 Ford "Tudor" and a 1964 Corvette, but says any vehicle is welcome as long as the owner pays the entry fee: $50 standard or $100 for VIP, which includes a waterfront parking space with views of Port Gardner Bay.

Judging with personality

The show awards honors to the top 50 vehicles, but judges emphasize spirit over sticker price. Creative categories include "Best make-out car" and "Most likely to get a speeding ticket."

A 50-50 raffle splits the pot between the cancer fund and one lucky winner. Sponsors Angel of the Winds Casino and Harbor Marine are contributing hotel stays and restaurant meals as additional raffle prizes.

How to attend

The show is at Box Car Park on the Port of Everett's Waterfront Place. Spectator admission is free. The Everett Marina charges for adjacent parking; public transit to the waterfront is another option. Food vendors and community activities will also be on site.
