Naval Station Everett will run a security drill with local fire and emergency agencies from 9 a.m. to noon on Tuesday, Sept. 15.

The base called the exercise a routine, regularly scheduled drill and not a response to any specific threat, according to an announcement on the station's Facebook page.

Residents near the base may see emergency vehicles and uniformed personnel in the area during the three-hour window. The announcement did not name which fire or emergency agencies will take part or say whether any roads near the base will be closed.

The drill is the second scheduled exercise at the station this year. Naval Station Everett ran a multi-day training exercise from April 20 through April 28, according to My Everett News.

Past base incidents disrupted nearby streets

Advance notice of a planned drill carries extra weight for Everett's waterfront. Real emergencies at the base have forced road closures and shelter-in-place orders in recent years.

In September 2023, an investigation at Naval Station Everett's North Gate shut down West Marine View Drive in both directions.

The Port of Everett told people in the South Marina area to shelter in place until an all-clear came at about 4:40 p.m. on Sept. 14, 2023, according to a Port of Everett notice.

On Sept. 15, 2025, Everett Fire and the Snohomish County Hazardous Materials Response Team (HazMat team) responded to a three-alarm HazMat incident at the station. Everett Fire said on X the substance was later found to be nonhazardous and no injuries were reported.

Those episodes show why residents benefit from knowing when activity near the base is planned rather than real.

Tuesday's exercise is set to wrap up by noon.
